The workshop “Antibiotic - use, management and potential risk of antibiotic resistance” took place on 20th September 2016 at National Institute of Veterinary Research (NIVR), 86 Truong Chinh, Dong Da, Hanoi.This workshop would be the first edition of the SHARE initiative workshop which aims to promote information sharing between researchers, experts and between research and policy in Vietnam. It gathered participants working for national governmental bodies (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development - MADR, Administration of Medical Services of Ministry of Health - MOH), research institutes (NIVR, National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology - NIHE), universities (Vietnam One Health Universities Network - VOHUN, Vietnam University of Agriculture - VNUA, Vinh Medical University - VMU, Bac Giang Agriculture and Forestry University - BAFU) and national veterinarian practitioners association, and for international organisations (Food and Agriculture Organisation - FAO, World Health Organisation - WHO) and research institutes (Oxford University Clinical Research Unit - OUCRU, French agricultural research and international cooperation organization – CIRAD, International Livestock Research Institute – ILRI).
The objective of the workshop was to bring together experts in the fields of public health and veterinary medicine, epidemiology, and policy. The one day workshop has permitted participants to exchange the current surveillance initiatives of antibiotic uses in public health, animal health and other sectors and to brainstorm across sectors on the needs, current gaps and challenges regarding the development of efficient one health surveillance systems for antimicrobial resistance issues.
